I think this move is an attempt to mitigate situations where a chapter has a ton of legacies coming through and are forced to cut women they’d rather hang on to for a legacy they’d rather cut. DG is a huge national sorority and I’m sure there are schools with lower quotas than ours where their chapters realistically COULD fill their PC with legacies if they wanted to. I’m still uncomfortable with the idea of taking a legacy all the way to pref and then ranking her low on the bid list, that seems unnecessarily cruel. As to why legacies are a racial issue, it’s because sororities didn’t admit WOC until the mid 20th century and there was a stigma around it for a long time after that. Very few black women are legacies to NPC sororities for that reason, certainly not by their grandmas or great grandmas. I mean look at us, it is literally impossible for any black PNM to be an in house legacy at UA unless it’s an older sister.
