A student at the University for freshman orientation was arrested Friday morning after leaving Sideways bar with a beer in his hand. ?I was in the bathroom and came out looking for people I was with,? said Samuel Weintraub, 18, of Roswell. According to the Athens-Clarke County police report, an officer approached Weintraub on the sidewalk in front of Magnolia?s bar on the corner of Broad and Jackson streets. Samuel Weintraub When asked by police for identification, Weintraub said he was 18 and handed the officer a fake Florida driver?s license with the likeness of another University student, according to the report. ?I had no idea about the [open container] law and how strict it was,? Weintraub said. ?I learned the hard way.?
