A huge difference between fraternity and sorority rush is this... fraternities give out lots and lots of bids to whoever they choose, with no external (IFC) limits placed on the number of bids. AFTER getting that bid, the pledges face frequent cuts. They have to earn their initiation and prove their worth as a brother. Getting that bid is no guarantee that you will be a member of the fraternity. They can be black balled at any point prior to initiation. It is completely the opposite with sororities. Once a girl gets a bid, we intend for her to become an initiated member. There is NO hell week, there is no "earning" initiation. So while it may be harder to get a sorority bid, it is much harder to get through to initiation for the men. Yes, some fraternities have all but eliminated pledge periods to try to stop the hazing prior to initiation. That initiation after only a couple of days has its own problems.
