8. POSITION OF OFFICERS: The SMC is placed behind the altar table at the head of the room, with the SC on his left and the ThC on his right. Unless definitely stated, the SMC may sit or stand during the ceremonies, at his own discretion. The IMC is seated at the opposite end of the room. The members are seated along the sides of the room, as far back as possible in order to leave the center floor space clear. The SC and ThC attend to lighting and extinguishing the urn lamps. The Guard shall not admit any member to the Chapter room while the Initiation Ceremony is in progress. 9. CARE OF INITIATORY PARAPHERNALIA: Immediately after the close of the meeting all initiatory paraphernalia shall be carefully stored in the chapter strong box. 10. DIGNITY: The initiation should be conducted in a dignified manner. At no point in the ceremony should levity be permitted. There shall be no smoking in the Chapter room during the Initiatory Ceremony.
