As a member of a house that has done spring, your reason does not apply and is not the general and usual reason. Our nationals highly encourage and push it. It's a dry run for fall, low pressure, and a lot of great people go through. It allows people already friends with a lot of us to feel they got the recruitment treatment and experience too. It takes the pressure off getting the perfect fall recruitment and fills all the early grad spots. We don't lower standards for spring. Statistically, as like your example, at least 5 actives will graduate in fall even with perfect retention. Also like someone else said, there are study abroad and part time student transitions that open spots too. Plus members are no longer obligated to be in if they have enough credits to graduate, regardless of fulfilling degree requirements. Spring recruitment is really easy and laid back anyways. It also takes the pressure off of making actives live in because there are always spring new members who really want to live in the coming fall.
