There are a lot of ways and reasons all houses have spots open up in Spring, The easy answer, often said in a catty way on GR, is that people dropped/deactivated after fall recruitment and the sorority HAS to do spring to make-up for people quitting. However, there are a lot of other reasons why houses have spots and ALL houses have spots open up before the Spring semester starts. People drop out of school, people transfer, people graduate in fall, people study abroad. Here is how to fill a graduating senior's spot during her final spring semester. You have a member studying abroad who will be back in th fall. Recruit a replacement in the spring, she joins and is a member before fall. When the abroad member returns, the numbers still work because a senior graduated. Also, its a bonus for the house if the abroad student was living in, left a bed open in the house when she left for the spring, and the Spring recruited member wants to live in now. I think that for some houses there are rules about being enrolled full-time so that you do not count as a member if you are part time (e.g., a senior that does not need a full semester of classes)
