While the expense of dues is can range a lot, the treasurer of a fraternity will be able to make a payment plan / reduce dues if you talk to them about your problem. Don't be tempted to join a fraternity because it is cheaper. Join if you like the people in the fraternity and would fit in. The cost of dues should be something you can work out with the treasurer and not affect your decision too much.
