Again, it's not a specific rule, it's just how some (not all) houses do things. Most sororities want to keep a fairly balanced number of members in each class. And they may have to cut a LOT of girls after first round. I'm sure members probably push for really awesome sophomores to come back. But if they've got 600 girls first round, and they can invite 400 back, they need to cut on a larger scale so they can really focus on the people they're considering. Don't worry about that right now, or have a preconceived notion that a house will be cutting you because of your age. Just go through the experience and be yourself.
