I felt exactly the same way you are feeling now when I received my 2nd choice on bid day. I kept a fake smile plastered on my face the whole day but kept looking at the girls who got the house I thought I belonged in with envy and when I got back to my dorm room that night, I sobbed on the phone with my mom. She told me that I owed it to myself to give it a chance and I am so glad I listened! It didn't happen overnight, but within a few weeks I had made friends with girls in my pledge class and in the sophomore PC. I showed up to events and when opportunities for more involvement came, I took them. I am now a senior and cannot imagine these last few years without my sisters. I love my sorority and the opportunities for friendship and leadership that it has provided. Here's the thing - I'm sure I would have also been happy in my first choice. But I have learned that all of the houses have great girls who work hard to make their chapter shine and you will get out of sorority life what you put into it. If you keep thinking that you don't fit in to the house that gave you a bid, then you won't be happy there. Go hang out at the house, make plans to go out with your pledge class and embrace the opportunity you've been given. If after a few weeks of really trying, you still feel the same, then at least you know you really gave it your best effort.
